Ferro Silicon 72 grade lumps in metallic grey are widely employed
as inoculants in foundry production to refine the microstructure of
cast iron and improve its mechanical properties. With approximately
72% silicon content, these lumps promote the formation of fine
graphite flakes or nodules during solidification, which enhances
machinability, reduces chilling tendency, and minimizes shrinkage
defects in castings. The metallic grey color indicates a relatively
clean alloy with limited contamination, ensuring predictable
inoculation effects. When added to molten iron just before pouring,
the silicon in FeSi acts as nuclei for graphite precipitation,
preventing the formation of coarse graphite that weakens the metal.
This leads to castings with higher tensile strength, better wear
resistance, and more uniform properties throughout the component.
Commonly used in manufacturing engine blocks, cylinder heads, and
